So, to begin my Blogging experience I thought I’d start with how I got into floating and why I love it enough that I decided to open a Float Centre.
My journey didn’t actually start that long ago, a close friend had mentioned floating as something we should try, so we planned a weekend away to go check it out. Interestingly, when the time came for our getaway it was not my first float session! I was so excited about the idea that I started doing research and realized that what began as a great excuse to have a weekend away with my girlfriends, was actually SO MUCH MORE! The more I read the less patience I had to wait until I could finally experience float therapy. So, I decided to try somewhere closer to home.
I booked in as soon as possible and made the hour and a bit drive to the centre, where the owner welcomed me warmly. He told me everything I needed to know about my session and why he started floating and how it changed his life. In short, he was in a catastrophic motorcycle accident, which totally changed his life and flotation, or Restricted Environmental Stimulus Therapy, helped him surpass all expectations for his recovery.
The owner then asked me why I was there. I told him, I too had been in a motor vehicle accident and still had some lingering issues. My neck being one, the right side which has a tendency to tighten up like steel cable, which it was and had been for about 4 months at that time! I also mentioned that the week before I had cracked a few ribs in a misadventure at the Warsaw Caves and was functioning, but in quite a bit of discomfort. As well, one of my main motivations to try floating was that at the time, and throughout my life, I was suffering from terrible insomnia and was hoping that a float session would help.
So after our chat and my orientation I was left alone to start my float. My hour session was over before I knew it and I wanted more! I have meditated throughout my life and floating simply amplified the affects of my meditation. The very first thing I felt was this amazing and all encompassing sense of calm, one such as I have never before experienced. My neck muscles which were as hard as steel before hand, which no amount of massage, acupuncture or chiropractic care had been able change, were like they had never seen any trauma after only one hour in a float pod! I was hooked!
After my float the owner of the centre asked how my pain was, well, the ribs still felt like they did before the float… until the next day! I felt like I should have after a month or 6 weeks, not just one week! Not only did my ribs and neck feel amazing, but I also slept better that night than I had in months! At this point, yes, after only one session, I thought Peterborough needs this, I need this, and I have clients and friends that need this
After that I was addicted and floated wherever and whenever I was able and started getting the wheels in motion to expand my at home Massage Therapy clinic to include Flotation Therapy. I would say that the rest is history, but as we are currently in renovations, I’ll say that my experience with REST has lead me to where I am today!
